This 754 acre Private Reserve is strategically located on Belize’s Southern Highway, just south of Maya Center Village, and across the highway from the entrance to Sanctuary Bay’s coastal estates.
This Biological Preserve was created during last century to protect the watershed of Red Creek – which joins Tapir Creek and Cabbage Haul Creek to form the estuary of Sapodilla Lagoon by the Sittee River and the Caribbean Sea. This vital, native forest connects Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary with the coast of southern Belize. It protects Belize’s native Tropical Moist Forest and Pine Forest. It provides habitat for Jaguar, Puma, Tapir, Ocelot, Jaguarundi, Yellowhead Amazons, Tinamu, Great Currasow, and many other species of wildlife.
This property controls entry to the Cabbage Haul Road. This seasonal road leads west, up the mountain to a communication tower within the Jaguar Preserve. Its gently-rolling topography begins at an elevation of 65 ft above sea level at its highway frontage, then reaches more than 300 ft of elevation on its western border. It is characterized by open savanna, pine ridge, riparian forest, and high-canopy rain forest.
Two newly-constructed, well-built, rammed-earth homes are on the entry road. These structures are connected to Belize’s electrical grid.
